Esta diferencia significativa puede atribuirse a 3 factores fundamentales a nivel molecular: uno es la enorme diferencia en la complejidad molecular y el n\u00famero de enlaces qu\u00edmicos; el segundo es el tipo y la estabilidad de los enlaces qu\u00edmicos; y, por \u00faltimo, es el estado de oxidaci\u00f3n del \u00e1tomo de carbono. Son estos factores los que determinan que la glucosa sea la principal fuente de energ\u00eda de la vida, y el agua el medio estable de reacci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de la vida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Molecular_Complexity_And_The_Number_Of_Chemical_Bonds\"><\/span>Complejidad molecular y n\u00famero de enlaces qu\u00edmicos<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En primer lugar, veamos la estructura molecular. Una mol\u00e9cula de glucosa est\u00e1 formada por 24 \u00e1tomos unidos por 24 enlaces covalentes, y su estructura es bastante compleja. En cambio, una mol\u00e9cula de agua s\u00f3lo tiene tres \u00e1tomos y dos enlaces covalentes. Para ser sinceros, no se trata en absoluto de una comparaci\u00f3n de un orden de magnitud en cuanto a estructura. La energ\u00eda de una mol\u00e9cula se almacena en sus enlaces qu\u00edmicos, por lo que el mayor n\u00famero de enlaces qu\u00edmicos de la glucosa le permite almacenar mucha m\u00e1s energ\u00eda potencial que el agua. La glucosa contiene un gran n\u00famero de enlaces carbono-carbono (C-C) y carbono-hidr\u00f3geno (C-H). En comparaci\u00f3n con los enlaces ox\u00edgeno-hidr\u00f3geno (O-H) altamente estables del agua, estos enlaces C-C y C-H son relativamente inestables y, por tanto, contienen mayor energ\u00eda. La raz\u00f3n por la que el estado energ\u00e9tico del enlace O-H del agua es m\u00e1s bajo es que el \u00e1tomo de ox\u00edgeno tiene una fuerte electronegatividad, lo que hace que los electrones de enlace est\u00e9n m\u00e1s sesgados hacia el ox\u00edgeno, formando as\u00ed una estructura muy estable. Esto explica por qu\u00e9 la respiraci\u00f3n celular es un proceso de liberaci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda. En este proceso, la glucosa se descompone en presencia de ox\u00edgeno en di\u00f3xido de carbono y agua, que son mol\u00e9culas de menor energ\u00eda y m\u00e1s estables. del \u00e1tomo de carbono: puede decirse que es un indicador decisivo de la elevada energ\u00eda potencial de la glucosa. En la glucosa, los \u00e1tomos de carbono se encuentran en un estado muy reducido, lo que significa que son ricos en electrones. Tras el c\u00e1lculo, el estado de oxidaci\u00f3n medio de los \u00e1tomos de carbono en la glucosa es 0. Este excedente de electrones convierte a la glucosa en un excelente donante de electrones. Durante la respiraci\u00f3n celular, los \u00e1tomos de carbono de la glucosa se oxidan para formar di\u00f3xido de carbono (CO\u2082). En el di\u00f3xido de carbono, el estado de oxidaci\u00f3n del \u00e1tomo de carbono cambia a +4, lo que indica que ha perdido un electr\u00f3n. Los electrones se desplazan hacia los \u00e1tomos de ox\u00edgeno, m\u00e1s electronegativos, liberando mucha energ\u00eda, que se capta en forma de ATP (3 monofosfato de adenosina) para impulsar la actividad celular.
